Nyein Aung's creative works are organised in three divisions: Industrial Design, Design Research and Art. The primary practice of Nyein's is in Industrial Design and Design Research - through which high-impact design concepts are generated together with industry and academic partners. Nyein's artworks are intellectual properties of Dr Nyein Chan Aung. The work includes both fictions based on, and artistic representation of people, places, moments and thoughts.

About Nyein
Nyein Chan Aung is an award-winning Industrial Designer, Design Researcher, Artist and a self-proclaimed maker of "cool stuff." In 2018, Nyein was awarded a PhD in Industrial Design for his design rsearch of an aircraft cabin that improves the in-flight sleep of economy class passengers. The research was undertaken in partnership with TEAGUE and a global aerospace company.
Nyein has been designing products professionally since 2005 and has achieved notable recognition for products in aerospace, healthcare and camping. Nyein is currently a Senior Design Researcher (Practice-based) at Monash Art Design and Architecture’s (MADA) Design Health Collab.
Nyein was born in Myanmar and has studied and practised Design in The United States, Myanmar, and Australia. He received his Associate degree from the Art Institute of Seattle (USA) and his Bachelor degree from the University of Technology Sydney (Australia). His PhD was completed at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Nyein's most notable awards include the TEAGUE PhD Design Research Scholarship (2015), Casey Hyun Industrial Design Graduate Award (2009), and Carl Nielsen Professional Development Award (2007).

Nyein has positioned himself as a design expert at the intersection of mobility and health. He is also committed to elevating and increasing awareness of design thinking, and it's ability to consistently generate disruptive innovations.
Nyein is also an artist. He began explorations in drawing, painting and photography around the age of twelve. He works primarily with graphite, watercolour, and ink. Nyein currently lives in Melbourne with his amazing wife and way too many plants for two people to look after.
